Richard Peto FRS (14 de maio de 1943) é professor de estatística médica e epidemiologia na Universidade de Oxford no Reino Unido.
Frequentou o Taunton's College em Southampton e estudou ciências naturais na Universidade de Cambridge.
Foi colaborador de Richard Doll na Unidade de Pesquisa Estatística do Medical Research Council em Londres.
Fundou a Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) em Oxford em 1975, sendo atualmente co-diretor.
Tornou-se membro da Royal Society em 1989, por suas contribuições ao desenvolvimento da metanálise. É especialista no estudo de mortes relacionadas ao uso do tabaco.
O paradoxo de Peto recebeu o seu nome.
