Alejandro Neciosup Acuña (Distrito de Pativilca, Perú, 12 de diciembre de 1944), conocido como Álex Acuña, es un percusionista peruano.

Biografía

Nacido en Pativilca, Perú, a la edad de 4 años empezó a tocar la batería y la percusión. A los 10 años de edad, comenzó a tocar con la orquesta de su padre y hermanos "Tropical Boys de los Hermanos Neciosup". Con 16 años, llegó a ser uno de los músicos peruanos más solicitados como instrumentista de sesión para diversos programas de televisión, teatro, películas y grabaciones de discos. También participó como músico de conciertos en vivo, llegando a ser un artista de alto nivel.

A los 18 años, se unió a la banda de Pérez Prado, y en 1965, se trasladó a Puerto Rico. En 1974, Acuña viaja a Las Vegas, trabajando con artistas como Elvis Presley y Diana Ross. Al año siguiente se incorporó al grupo de jazz-fusión Weather Report,^[1]​ con el que ganó un premio Grammy. En 1978, se trasladó a California, convirtiéndose en un músico de sesión, grabando y produciendo en vivo con Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, Jim Walker, Chick Corea, Whitney Houston, Plácido Domingo, Phil Keaggy, Sergeant Petter, Sam Phillips, ex-Weather Report, Wayne Shorter y Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Roy Orbison, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Beck, Roberta Flack, U2, y Al Jarreau.

Realizó grabaciones con músicos culturalmente diversos como Javier Malosetti, Pepe Alva, Marcos Witt, Lee Ritenour, Peter Gabriel, Pedro Eustache, Johnny Clegg, Robbie Robertson, Jackson Browne, Flavio Sala, Osamu Kitajima, Lucas Leyes.

En 1980, participó tocando la percusión en la grabación de The tide is high, tema incluido en el álbum Autoamerican de Blondie.^[2]​ Su aporte también se dio en el álbum Rattle and Hum (1987) de U2, exactamente en la percusión del tema Hawkmoon 269.^[3]​ Así mismo en esa década de 1980, realizó una gira con la banda de jazz cristiano Koinonia, período de sesiones, que incluyó a músicos como Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, Hadley Hockensmith, Harland Rogers y Bill Maxwell. Trabajó en el álbum Crow Jane Alley, de Willy DeVille.

Participó como percusionista en el concierto de Roy Orbison de 1987 denominado "A Black and White Night", junto con músicos de la Banda de Elvis Presley y otros grandes artistas.

También ha trabajado como educador en la Universidad de California y en Berklee College of Music.

En 1994, graba en vivo con Ron Kenoly en el Atlanta Civic Center con una asistencia al concierto de 4000 personas. Acompañado de Tom Brooks, Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, Chester Thompson, entre otros.

En 2001 fue nominado al premio Grammy por su trabajo Acuarela de tambores.^[4]​

A mediados de los años 2000 colaboró con la disquera CanZion, empresa del cantautor estadounidense Marcos Witt.^[5]​

En el 2009, colabora al nuevo disco del guitarrista italiano Flavio Sala, titulado De La Buena Onda.

En el 2011, hace una colaboración en el álbum Heritage de la banda sueca de metal progresivo Opeth y regresa al Perú para realizar un concierto en homenaje a Weather Report.^[6]​

En 2023 obtuvo el reconocimiento del Premio del Consejo Directivo en los Premios Grammy por su trayectoria.^[7]​
