Extinct Species:

  • Bermuda saw-whet owl, described from fossil records and explorer accounts of the bird in the 17th century.[1]
  • Laughing owl, last seen in 1914.[2]
  • Mauritius scops owl, last seen 1837 and certainly extinct by 1859.[3]
  • Réunion scops owl, went extinct in the 17th century after the colonization of the island of Réunion.[4]
  • Rodrigues scops owl, last recorded in 1726.[5]
