Cosmoid scales contain cosmine in large amount.So the scales are called cosmoid scales.these scales have 4 layers-(a)the outermost layer contains enamel.This is called Ganoin layer. (b)hard cosmine layer. (c)spongy layer. (d)the innermost layer-compact layer.This scale is not found in any living fish.But fossil like lobe-fin fish,lung fish,Placodermi,Ostracodermi had cosmoid scales.
