China National Highway 345 runs from Qidong in Jiangsu to Nagqu in Tibet. Its exact length is not known yet, as parts of the route are still under planning, but once completed it will be around 3000 km long.^[1] It is one of the new trunk highways proposed in the China National Highway Network Planning (2013 - 2030).

Route

Jiangsu

Construction on the section starting from Qidong commenced in May 2019.^[1]^[2] It is complete in Jingjiang and Taixing and under construction as a western ring road around Yangzhou.^[3]

Anhui

In Fuyang, provincial highway S102 and the Fuyang south ring road were reclassified as G345. G345 is mostly complete in Anhui.

Henan

Shaanxi

Gansu

A part of the Gansu section is relabeled and upgraded former Gansu provincial highways S305 and S307.

Qinghai

Parts of Qinghai Provincial Highway S309 were upgraded to G345.^[4] It connects to G214 at Gyêgu, leading west to Qapugtang.

Tibet

In Nagqu, G345 connects to G109.^[1]

Before 2013, Mainland China observed National Highway 228 as Taiwan Ring, composed of several National Expressway (Republic of China) and Taiwan provincial highways, this designation is not recognized by Republic of China (Taiwan). This observation was eventually dropped in new National Highway plans, replaced by Dandong-Dongxing Highway.
A extension plan of the highway system was announced in 2013, including extension of existing highways(101-112, 201-227, 301-330) and new highways (North-South 228-248, East-West 331-361, Connections 501-581). Only small portions of them needs to be constructed from scratch; most of the new highways would be upgraded provincial/county highways.
Another extension plan was announced in 2022, including new small purpose connection highways (601-701).}
